QR Codes: Sample Assignment

Another Great Assignment from Melissa Olmstead!  This is an example of how she uses QR codes in her classroom.  This is for a Financial Literacy class where students are learning about the use of credit.

Example of an Assignment Using QR Codes
Financial Literacy Credit Performance Task

Goal:
Your task is to create a poster or flyer about credit.

Role:
You work for a nonprofit group that serves to educate consumers about credit and debt issues.

Audience:
The target audience is community members and business owners in the Tri-Cities.

Situation:
The challenge is to create a document that businesses will be willing to display on their bulletin boards and in their windows .You intend for the document to serve as a reminder about safe credit card usage and avoiding debt.

Purpose/Product:
You have noticed that more community members are not using credit wisely and are getting into credit card debt.  You have found that many people do not understand what a credit history is and why it matters as well. You want to provide information to help consumers and will be creating a flyer or poster on the topic. You have also noticed that it is a trend for many businesses to use QR(Quick Response) Codes as part of their marketing, and you want to make sure and include one on your flyer.

Standards and Criteria for Success:

Your document needs to

  • Include at least 10 accurate facts or tips about the topic area.
  • It should be interesting to look at and well designed (you want people to take the time to look at your information, so you want to draw them in by designing a creative project)
  • The project also needs to include at least one QR code that can be scanned. The QR code can lead to a website with more information, a description about the topic, tips for consumers, a quote about credit, a voice recording with more information, a link to an article, song, picture, or poem, etc. You can use a variety of QR code creators such as, QR Code Maker, QRStuff, Kaywa, and Delivr, to create your QR code.

Topics for Credit Flyers:

Describe what credit is and how a person qualifies for credit? Explain the 4 c’s of credit, the types of credit available for consumer, and what they mean.
