QR Codes: Another Sample Assignment

Melissa Olmstead is my co-worker at another High School, we both teach with ipads and I love the lessons she creates!  I hope you enjoy seeing them as well!  She has graciously agreed to be our guest and share many of her lessons that she created to utilize the ipads effectively.  Here is another lesson she created using QR Codes in a Foods Class.

Example of an Assignment Using QR Codes

QR Mystery Clues Nutrient Review

Work with your group to create QR Mystery Clues for your nutrient. Create a sequence of at least 5 QR codes. Each code needs to provide small pieces of information about your nutrient. As your audience scans each code, they will get a clue and try to guess what the topic is. At the end, the last code will provide the answer and a link to more information about the topic.  You can use a variety of QR code creators such as, QR Code Maker, QRStuff, Kaywa, and Delivr, to create your QR codes.

Your assignment needs to include:
·       At least 5 QR Code Mystery Clues about your nutrient.
·       Accurate information about your nutrient
·       A Final QR Code with the answer(the nutrient name) and a link to more information about that nutrient

Using Presentation Apps: Sample Assignment from Guest Blogger

I am very fortunate to work with such great people.  A co-worker at another High School in the district received a classroom set of ipads the same time I did.  We have been able to share ideas, brainstorm, and problem solve together.  She comes up with really great lessons, she's know for them!  I have asked her to be a guest blogger.

Thank you for sharing your lessons and being my guest!

Melissa Olmstead from Pasco High.

Here is an assignment she created for her Foods classroom that will show you how you could use presentation apps:

Using a Story Book App: Sample Assignment

My students really enjoy making books on the iPad.  It strengthens their communication, reading, writing skills.  They must write for a specific purpose and they are learning the content of the class.  This assignment offers a great deal of growth and opportunities to be creative.

There are many story telling apps available.  All of the apps below are free (most of the apps on this blog will be free because I am cheap!).   My favorite story telling app is Story Buddy 2, however it is possible that my students may prefer a different app so I provide choices (we all know voice and choice is invaluable in the classroom).  I allow them to choose from several apps that are already on their classroom ipad:

Story Buddy 2

Book Magic

Scribble My Story

Here is the assignment I created using a story telling app.  It is for my Human Development class.  It is an introductory topic, which is another great reason to use easy apps because the students are just getting comfortable with the ipads.  The topic is the Types of Development.  Feel free to use this lesson in your own classroom, change it make it work for you, but I would LOVE comments and suggestions on how to make it even better!  All of my assignments are a work in progress, I change them constantly to make them better.
